England On The Brink Of World Cup Last 16

Lauren James' Stunning Strike Leads England to Victory

England on the Brink of World Cup Last 16

England's young star, Lauren James, scored a stunning early goal to give the Lionesses a 1-0 victory over Denmark in their second Group D match of the FIFA Women's World Cup. The win puts England on the brink of qualifying for the knockout stages of the tournament.

James, making her first start of the World Cup, pounced on a loose ball in the Denmark penalty area and fired past goalkeeper Katrine Abels in the 18th minute. It was a moment to remember for the 21-year-old, who has been in impressive form for Chelsea this season.

England controlled much of the possession in the first half but failed to create any clear-cut chances after James' opener. Denmark improved after the break and had a couple of good opportunities to equalize. However, the English defense, marshaled by captain Millie Bright, stood firm.

The win takes England to four points from two games, with only one more match to play in the group stage against Japan. A draw would be enough to secure England's place in the knockout stages, but they will be aiming to finish top of the group with a win over the reigning champions.
